AIDAN Wilkinson smashed a brilliant unbeaten 153 as Oxfordshire Under 13s pulled off a spectacular eight-run win over Sussex in a friendly at Great & Little Tew.
The youngster’s fine knock included 17 fours and eight sixes from just 114 balls, as the hosts posted 245-3.
Wilkinson was well supported by Alfie Turner, who hit 43.
Oxon’s bowlers had to battle hard on a good batting surface as Sussex made a solid start and looked on course for victory.
But wickets at crucial times and Turner’s brilliant spell of 5-33 helped dismiss the visitors for 237.
l OXFORDSHIRE Under 14s were in action in the ECB Boys County Cup, but lost by eight wickets in their Group 3 clash at Devon.
The visitors suffered a horrible collapse at Barnstaple & Pilton, reduced to 111 all out after only losing their second wicket with the score on 91.
Captain Freddie Smith (33) and James Coles (56) put on a strong opening partnership of 51, but when the second wicket fell, Oxon were in trouble, thanks to Josh Farley (6-34).
Despite the efforts of James Coles, the total was never enough as Devon sealed victory in the 23rd over.
l JACK Veal grabbed the headlines as the Oxfordshire Under 10s pulled off a one-wicket friendly win over Sussex at Blackstone.
Veal hit a six over square leg to earn victory, having already shone with the ball.
He reduced Sussex to 26-3, before an excellent spell from Henry Welch, who took 2-12 off seven overs, helped restrict the hosts to 118-6.
Julian Laird (27) helped Oxon off to a flying start and victory looked in sight at 98-4, until they quickly slipped to 100-7.
A valuable partnership of 13 between Conrad Morley and Louis King edged the visitors closer, before Veal sealed the win.
