CAPTAIN Luke Ryan admits Oxfordshire did not play well enough in the Unicorns Counties Championship final, but insists there is more to come from his side.

Western Division champions Oxon lost by ten wickets to Cumberland at Carlisle inside two days on Monday, after scoring just 85 and 89 in their first and second innings.

However, Ryan is encouraged by the fact Oxon have played, but lost, in three finals in 12 months – they also made the last two of this year’s T20 competition and last season’s Trophy.

He said: “We have got to three finals in 12 months so we have got to be doing something right.

“We’ve definitely got the potential for it to all happen for us and we have got to keep going.”

Ryan added: “We’re obviously disappointed, but really proud of how the season has gone.

“But you are going to be struggling to win games batting like that. We did not play well.”

Heavy dew caused play to be delayed on both days and Ryan says it was a difficult wicket to bat on.

He said: “It did feel like there was a ball with your name on it at any stage, but you have to adapt to the conditions.”
