Olly Clarke’s stunning spell helped Oxfordshire finish their Western Division campaign on a high with victory over Cheshire.

The hosts won by an innings and two runs at Banbury for their second Unicorns Counties Championship win.

Before two weeks ago they had not picked up a single victory in 2016.

After resuming the second day on 193-4, Oxon set 321-9 to lead by 167 on first innings.

Banbury’s Clarke, 17, then took 4-13 from 10.3 overs on his minor counties debut as Cheshire were all out for 165, with a day to spare.

Great & Little Tew’s Joe White (45) was dismissed in the third over of the day.

Captain Luke Ryan and vice Jonny Cater then set about scoring quick runs, putting on 56 between them in nine overs.

But Cater (69) was stumped just a ball after smashing a six off Dan Woods, who took 6-100.

And Ryan, who hit a quick-fire 32 off 35, soon followed.

Leo Bethell was dismissed in the next over, before Chad Keegan (51no) and Harvey Eltham put on 56 for the ninth wicket as Oxon made 321-9 from their 90 overs.

Oxon made a great start with the ball, paceman Keegan dismissing Callum Moore in the first over to leave the visitors 1-1.

Rick Moore and David Hurst put on 41 for the second wicket, before the latter was caught at fine leg by Ben Charlesworth off Will Rooney.

They then quickly slipped to 93-5, with left-arm spinner Clarke trapping Moore leg before wicket for his first minor counties victim.

Will Owen and Jack Williams added 32 runs, but once the former fell it was only a matter of time.

From 125-6, Clarke took three of the last four wickets, wicket-keeper Cater stumping ninth man Ash Davis as Oxon triumphed in the 48th over with more than a day to spare
