OXFORDSHIRE hung on for a draw in their Western Division match against Wales at Usk.

The result ends a run of six successive defeats for Oxon, who were set an unlikely target of 426 on the final day of their Unicorns Counties Championship match.

Resuming on 134-4, Wales batted until lunch, setting Oxon a near-impossible total.

Lloyd Sabin (31) and Hugo Darby (30) ensured a solid start in reply, but when they had gone, Oxon were 86-4.

Stand-in skipper Jonny Cater and Joe White put on 40 for the fifth wicket, but when the latter fell, two more wickets fell in quick succession leaving them in trouble on 130-7.

But Cater batted almost three hours for an unbeaten 63 and debutant Jamie Curtis faced 34 balls for one not out as Oxon stopped the rot.
