ASTON Rowant were forced to withdraw Miles Hammond from their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League fixture at Datchet on Saturday after learning he had been incorrectly registered.

Hammond, who this year became contracted to Gloucestershire, was registered by Rowant as a category 1 player – the same status as when he last played for the club in 2014.

However, because of his county contract, the former England under 19 player, who scored a century in Rowant’s opening Division 2 victory against Amersham, should have been registered as category 2.

“It was an administrative error on our part,” said Rowant chairman Paul Humphreys. “It made no significant difference as he was still eligible to play for us.

“The moment we heard at 9.30am on Saturday, that the league had deregistered him, we withdrew him from the team to face Datchet.”

Humphreys said the club were re-registering Hammond as a category 2 player this week, so he can play against Oxford on Saturday.

He added: “We are in touch with the league over a very minor administrative error.”

League secretary Peter Tomlin declined to comment on the matter.
