Banbury were given a fright before securing a 35-run victory in their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 match away to Harefield.

The visitors got off to a flier with an opening stand of 90 between Hugo Darby and Craig Haupt, and with Australian under 19 player Kurtis Patterson adding a run-a-ball 36, they were cruising at 136-1.

But three quick wickets, including that of skipper Lloyd Sabin first ball, slowed their progress.

And it needed Darby’s unbeaten 90 for them to reach 234-6.

Harefield were well-placed at 114-2, but Charles Hill’s run out of Ollie Richards for 57 turned the tide and a tidy spell from seamer Ollie Wright restricted them to 199-8.

Great & Little Tew experienced a tough debut in the top flight, as they slipped to a 122-run defeat at Henley.

Tew’s decision to insert Henley started well as Matt Woods dismissed both openers with only three runs on the board.

However, the hosts have a powerful side and a century from Richard Morris, whose 134 off 125 balls included six sixes, flayed the rest of the attack.

With good support from Michael Roberts and Ziafat Ali, whose unbeaten 84 came off 64 balls, Henley recovered to 308-6.

Woods finished with 4-45, Tew lost Joe White run out as they slumped to 36-3.

However, a positive 47 from Australian all-rounder Dain Moreton and an unbeaten 68 from Lloyd Brock brought respectability to their innings, although their total of 186 from 44.5 overs left them well short.

But Tew were happy to collect six points from the encounter.
