TOM Condon smashed a brilliant century as Aston Rowant 2nd kept their Cherwell League Division 1 title challenge on track with a four-wicket victory at home to Great Brickhill.

Rowant were set a formidable 286 by Brickhill, after the visitors’ Graeme Carter hammered 133 off 134 balls and Hayden Simmonds struck 87.

Dominic Whatman (3-32) and Hendrick Robyns (3-40) were the pick of the Rowant bowlers.

Condon led from the front in Rowant’s reply, the opening hammering 116 from just 100 balls including 17 fours.

Robyns added 76 not out from 76 balls – an innings containing six fours and a six as Rowant reached 289-6 to wrap up victory with one over to spare.

Great Brickhill 7

Cumnor got back to winning ways to move back up to third place in a tight table by winning by four wickets at Tiddington.

In a low-scoring game, the hosts were bowled out for 143, Andrew Russell taking 3-27, while Will Goodman top-scored with 49.

Cumnor lost opener James Fitzjohn for a duck, and were in trouble at 25-3. But Callum Russell top-scored with 28 as they reached 144-6 with more than 16 overs to spare.

Dinton stayed top after edging past Banbury 2nd by three wickets.

There were three ducks in Banbury’s innings, which was held together by Justin Lambden (59) and Charlie Hill (44) as they were all out in the 48th over for 196.

Ashley Smith (44) and Philip Arnold (42) were the mainstays of the Dinton reply to see them over the line at 200-7.

Twyford saw off hosts Horspath 2nd by two wickets.

Joe Todd (42) and Jack Biggs (33) helped Horspath to 234-9 in their 50 overs, Jack Deal (3-45) the pick of the Twyford attack.

Zabiullah Saeed (46no) and Lachlan Roberts (43) led Twyford’s reply as they reached 235-8 with more than 12 overs to spare, Jason Cardy taking 3-34.

Basement boys Leighton Buzzard Town posted a 52-run win at Long Marston.

Phil Whatmore hit 100 not out to see Buzzard to 229-6 in their 50 over.

Sam Bastin (72) shone in Long Marston’s reply, but Dan Scott (3-24) and Jack Kempster (3-46) helped to bowl them out for 177.

DIVISION 2

JOE Butcher starred with bat and ball as Abingdon Vale maintained their Division 2 promotion challenge with a convincing 75-run victory at Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts on Saturday.

Nondies won the toss and opted to put their visitors in first, and Vale got off to a solid start.

A 45-run opening stand between the consistent Amith Premkumar and Terry Groome set the tone for the innings, while Butcher added the impetus batting at No. 4.

Premkumar fell with the score on 89 to bring Butcher to the crease, and the Oxfordshire 2nd XI all-rounder was at his fluent best.

He hit five fours and three sixes in his 67 not out, while Graham Charlesworth, coming in at seven, added quickfire 43 from 32 balls in a knock containing four fours and a six.

Charlesworth and Butcher shared an unbroken stand of 91 for the sixth wicket as Vale finished up on 220-5 from their 53 overs – a total which perhaps was slightly below par.

But Nondies, who are battling against relegation, were never really in the hunt as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Butcher took 3-36 from 8.3 overs, while spin duo Paul White and Jonathan Jenkinson bowled superbly in tandem, White taking 4-48 and Jenkinson 3-49.

Only Chris Day at seven really got to grips with the Vale attack, hitting nine boundaries in his 37, but Nondies quickly subsided to 145 all out.

OXFORD Downs marched on at the top of Division 2 with an easy seven-wicket victory at home to Wolverton Town.

The visitors were shot out for 110 in 45.1 overs as all five Downs’ bowlers took two wickets.

Downs lost captain and opener Wasim Mehmood for four, but Will Watts (63no) and George Sandbach (35) broke the back of the run chase as Downs eased home in 21 overs.

Challow & Childrey maintained their title challenge with a six-wicket win at home to bottom side Oxford 2nd.

George Trewby claimed 5-30 and John Pechey 4-46 as Oxford were bowled out for 187, Owyn Tong-Jones top-scoring with 70.

Pechey completed a fine all-round display, his 65 helping Challow to 188-4 with five balls to spare.

Great & Little Tew 2nd had to settle for a draw at home to local rivals Sandford St Martin.

Henry Woodward (54), Markus Jeacock (50) and Josh Garrett (44no) helped Tew set 245-5.

In reply, Sandford made 206-7 as Ian Bryan took 3-31 and Ollie Price 3-59, Steve Dobson top-scoring with 57.

Cropredy fell to a five-wicket defeat at Buckingham Town 2nd.

Batting first, Cropredy amassed 258-4 in their 53 overs, Ed Somerton top-scoring with 71 not out and Eli Heath hitting 65.

Somerton then returned 3-49 in the home side’s reply, but, led by Ben Laycock (91no), Adam King (55) and Jason Ell (53no), Buckingham reached 259-5 with one over to spare.

HORLEY produced a brilliant all-round display to condemn leaders Bledlow Village to a crushing 182-run defeat.

The visitors batted first and racked up an impressive 288-8 in their 53 overs, Dave Clark hitting 71, David Taylor 74 and Stephen King 51.

Bledlow were never in the hunt in the face of a superb spell from Dave Eaton (5-31), while Adam Webb chipped in with 3-58.

Didcot closed the gap at the top after a five-wicket win at Cublington.

Ian Demain claimed 5-26 as Cublington were shot out for 126 in 38.5 overs, before Connor Morrison hit 50 to steer his side to 127-5.

Warren Ainsworth’s six-wicket haul helped Blewbury & Wallingford to a 92-run victory at home to Tiddington 2nd.

Blewbury set 248 all out as Ian Harris hit 50 and Mark Carey 44, Patrick Knightley taking 5-40 and Joe Elliott 5-57.

Knightley then scored 78 in Tiddington’s reply, but a superb haul of 6-42 from Ainsworth sent the visitors crashing to 156 all out.

Craig Wood took 5-35 as Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd beat struggling visitors Oxford Downs 2nd by 36 runs.

But Shipton had an unlikely hero in Joe Cockroft, who hit an unlikely 46 not out batting at No. 10 to help Shipton from 134-9 to 178 all out, spinner Jonny Meardon taking 4-42 for Downs.

Darryl Woods led Downs’ reply with 34, but Wood’s haul kept chipping away at the Downs order as they were bowled out for 142.

Banbury 3rd posted a fine six-wicket win at Great Brickhill 2nd.

Ollie Murrey (3-28) and Chris Phillips (3-41) combined to dismiss Brickhill for 177, and then Steve Beck hit 55 to steer Banbury to 180-4.

DIVISION 4

WESTBURY completely outplayed Kimble to march on at the top with a crushing 220-run victory.

Batting first, Westbury raced to 341-4 dec in just 43 overs as Olly Tice bludgeoned 166 not out and Ben Rae hit 77.

Charlie Harper then claimed 6-27 and Graham Judd 3-36 as Kimble crumbled to 121.

Bicester & North Oxford remained unbeaten, but only just after struggling to a draw at Stokenchurch.

The in-form Arshad Latif hit 96 as Stokenchurch reached 230 all out at the end of the 51st over.

Nick Moorman scored 39 in Bicester’s reply, but they were never in the hunt, and just managed to hold out for a draw at 164-9.

Witney Mills needed some tail-end resistance from Nos 9 & 10 Steve Kelly (30) and Tom Mayho (31) to reach 155 all out away to East Oxford, for whom Chetan Walia took 5-45 and Atif Ali 3-28.

Ali Shah (43) and Johannes Jacobus (34) gave the hosts a rapid start to their reply, but the middle order struggled against Simon Haselgrove (4-57) and they only scrambled home by two wickets in the 30th over.

Struggling Oxford 3rd fell to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Brackley.

Miles Picknett’s 78 not out was the only highlight for Oxford as they crawled to 142-9 in their 53 overs, Josh Markham taking 6-37.

Eric Carpenter (53) led Brackley’s reply as they eased home at 145-2 in 25 overs.

They declared one over early on 238-9, before dismissing Dinton for 109.

DIVISION 5

THAME Town 2nd continued their superb form with a five-wicket win at Abingdon Vale 2nd to consolidate their place at the top of Division 5.

Luke Charlesworth, 13, hit 69 – batting for 50 overs – in Vale’s 171-9, Ian McStay taking 3-41 and Alastair Thomas 3-54.

Mike Furness (60no) then shone in Thame’s reply as they eased home at 172-5.

Horspath 3rd kept their promotion bid on track with a four-wicket win at Banbury 4th.

Dan Bartlett (55no) helped Banbury set 207-9, but 68 from Chris Jones and 62 not out from Tyron Eyles saw Horspath to 208-6 with more than seven overs to spare.

Cumnor 2nd skipper Jimmy Lee top-scored with 71 to lead his side to an eight-wicket win at home to Chearsley.

Carl Thompson took 5-45 to help dismiss Chearsley for 137, before Lee and Alex Hodder-Williams (49no) saw Cumnor to 138-2 in just 20 overs.

Kingston Bagpuize’s improved form continued as their 131-run win at Didcot 2nd moved them out of the drop zone.

Marco Cecchini (53) helped Kingston to 224 , Kunal Patel taking 4-36 for the hosts.

Youngster Jonathan Warner then claimed 4-14 and veteran Richard Woodley 3-7 to help dismiss Didcot for 93.

Leighton Buzzard 2nd edged out visitors Bledlow Ridge by one wicket in a low-scoring clash.

Ollie Chambers took 4-13 to help dismiss Ridge for 107.

A haul of 6-27 from Hamza Ahmed kept Ridge in the game, but the home side edged to 111-9, thanks to Riaan Krynauw’s 42.

DIVISIONS 6-9

SAM Barnes’s brilliant unbeaten 162 shone for Great & Little Tew 3rd, who had to settle for a draw at home to East Oxford 2nd in Division 6.

The opener slammed his career-best score as Tew racked up 306-7.

East Oxford put up a great chase, led by Bilal Ahmed’s 116 and Amir Butt’s 61. But they closed on 279-8.

Chris Eaton’s unbeaten ton helped Aston Rowant 3rd to a ten-wicket win at home to Challow & Childrey 2nd.

Challow were all out for 135, before Eaton’s rapid 102 not out led Rowant to 136-0 in the 20th over.

Abdullah Sadiqi starred for Division 7 leaders Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 2nd who beat hosts Long Marston 3rd by 71 runs.

Sadiqi hit 79 in Nondies’ 199-6, before taking 4-10 in Marston’s 128.

Sandford St Martin 2nd racked up an incredible 250-0 dec as they brushed aside hosts Bicester & North Oxford 2nd by 100 runs.

Colin Simpson (118no) and Jim Howe (107no) carried their bats, before Ben Ackland-Snow took 4-36 in Bicester’s 150 all out.

Mark Sheehan’s 109 and Tom Partridge’s 87 helped Oxford 4th to a massive 302-6 at Shipton 3rd, who crashed to a 200-run defeat.Matt Todd (4-27) and Sheehan (3-13) combined to skittle the hosts for just 102 in reply.

In Division 8, Witney Mills 2nd edged out Cumnor 3rd by one one run.

Andy Cannons (55no) led Mills to 195-3, and Cumnor were dismissed for 194 with one ball to spare, Rhys Probert hitting 65.

Twyford 3rd battled out a tie at Dinton 3rd in Division 9 North.

The hosts were all out for 185 as Billy Harper took 6-22. But Twyford fell for the same score as Bill Bridgman hit 71.

Mark Cox hit a brilliant 127 for Blewbury & Wallingford 2nd as they beat hosts Abingdon Vale 4th by 121 runs.

Blewbury declared on 244-4, and then dismissed their hosts for 123.
