One of the most impressive home records in the competition’s history will be put on the line when Shipton-under-Wychwood entertain Challow & Childrey in the Oxfordshire final on Sunday (1pm).

It’s a remarkable 16 years since Shipton tasted defeat on their own pitch.

And their conquerors that day, Tiddington, went on to reach Lord’s where they finished national runners-up to Woodhouse Grange.

Skipper Simon Hole felt that local knowledge had played a big part in Shipton turning their ground into a fortress.

“We always get good support at home,” he said. “It’s a decent pitch and we just know the ground and the scoring areas and angles.”

The chance to end Shipton’s home record – together with the knockback in not being able to stage the game after last Sunday’s original tie was washed out – is also spurring on Challow.

Competition organisers The Cricketer ruled that Shipton would play hosts as they were the original visiting side as Challow had conceded home advantage when staging Oxfordshire’s game against Wiltshire.

Skipper Nigel Hume said: “We are disappointed it isn’t at Challow, but the boys have put that to the back of their minds now and want to go and upset Shipton on Sunday.”

Shipton bring Stephen Brain into their 15-man squad, while Challow call up all-rounder Clive Robson for the unavailable Mark Middleton.

Shipton-under-Wychwood: from Hole (capt), Charlie Brain, A Hemming, J Barrett, Senior, Hunt, Miller, Seacole, Bates, P Hemming, Jennings, Christian Brain, Cross, Wood, S Brain.

Challow & Childrey: Hume (capt), Burry, Gordon, Demain, Hill, Owen, Jones, Slade, Dimbylow, Harris, Robson.
