OCA League Divisions 1 & 2

East Oxford kicked off their Division 1 campaign with a crushing eight-wicket victory at reigning champions Tetsworth on Saturday.

Batting first, Tetsworth’s Noel Adams hit 105 not out to help his side to 203-5.

But East Oxford eased home with nearly four overs to spare, Khurram Shaheen hitting 79 and Aftab Alam 55.

Westbury cruised to a 135-run victory at Marcham.

Tom Boardman (71) and Tom Wilson (68) helped Westbury to a formidable 243-7, before Andy Clarke claimed 5-31 as Marcham were shot out for 108 in reply.

Freeland kicked off their Division 1 campaign with a crushing victory over west Oxfordshire rivals Charlbury.

Batting first, Freeland posted 177-9, with captain Les Hole and Rob Panting both hitting 35.

Charlbury’s wickets were shared around, with Andy Glass taking 4-54 and Bimalka Liyanarachchi 3-41.

In reply, Charlbury never got going as they crashed to 69 all out, Panting completing a fine all-round performance with 3-5 and Andy Warren taking 3-20.

Great Horwood got off to a flier with an 85-run win against Oxford Caribbean.

Simon Ridgway (51no) and Sam Willett (44) saw Horwood to 216-8, before new boy Prasanna Wijesinghe took 4-41 as Caribbean were restricted to 131-9.

Division 2 new boys Northleach Town look set to be a formidable opponents after they rattled up 339-4 on their way to a 60-run victory over East & West Hendred.

Former Zimbabwean Test batsman Neil Ferreira hit 138 not out, but he was eclipsed by new teammate, former Bicester & North Oxford ace, Kingsley Went, who smashed 142.

Hendred gave a spirited chase, but closed on 279-9, Ian Clewley scoring 70 and Steve Shephard 63 not out.

Fringford won a low-scoring affair against Hook Norton.

Spinner George Gross took 5-40 as Fringford were bowled out for 116, Royston Blake hitting 31.

But it proved enough as Hooky were bowled out for 107, John Bacon taking 5-24.

Wayne Platts shone for Marsh Gibbon to help his side to a six-wicket win over Letcombe.

Platts took 3-25 as Letcombe fell to 118 all out, before hitting 45 not out in Marsh Gibbon’s 119-4.

Garsington saw off Watlington by 23 runs.

Neil Bound hit 58 as Garsington rattled up 228-8, before Watlington were restricted to 205-9 in reply.
