ASTON Rowant can clinch promotion back to Home Counties League Division 1 with a victory at home to already relegated Great Brickhill tomorrow.

Josh Smith’s side have topped the Division 2 table for most of the season, although a couple of hiccups in the past month have seen their once big lead cut back.

However, a win over their north Bucks opponents, who have yet to win a game, will see them return to the top flight after three years.

“Division 1 is where we want to be,” said Rowant chairman Paul Humphreys.

“We thought we might go up last year, but having James McDougall (pictured) in the side this season has been a big plus.

“ Having good players like him around has raised the performances of others.”

After their trouncing of Reading last week, Rowant are unchanged.

Thame Town are eyeing promotion following their thrilling three-run win over rivals Chesham.

With a trip to basement club Reading tomorrow, Thame can consolidate their position ahead of the final-day derby clash away to Rowant.

“We’re not taking the game lightly,”said skipper Michael Beard.

“We nearly slipped up against Great Brickhill a few weeks ago, so we’re not letting up.”

Thame were not considered likely promotion candidates in May.

Beard said: “Our aim this season was to improve on last year, with a young side.

“But promotion is now in our hands and it’s a great opportunity.

“Our lads are really fired up.”

Thame make one change with Andy Russell returning for Will Rooney, who is unavailable.

Shipton-under-Wychwood’s roller-coaster season continued with a five-wicket-defeat by Buckingham, after being bowled out for 81.

“The ball was taking great chunks out of the wicket, so who ever batted first was going to lose,” explained Shipton skipper Charlie Brain.

They make one change for a visit to Amersham, Steve Carvey coming in for Harry Davies.
