HORSPATH and holders Banbury have won their way through to the Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup final at Wormsley on Saturday, September 16.

They clinched their places by topping the South and North Groups respectively in the new-look Twenty20 competition.

Going into their last group game against Oxford, Horspath needed to win to be sure of topping the section and securing a crack at the Tollett Cup rather than the Wilf Bennett Trophy for group runners-up.

Oxford posted 159-7, with Alex Morgan smashing 61 off 42 balls, while John Barrett racked up 53.

Horspath would have been chasing a larger target, but for an amazing last over from Tom Cosford, which featured four consecutive wickets, including two run-outs.

Horspath skipper Will Eason then hit 48 from 42 balls as the hosts got home at 162-5 with four balls to spare.

The Wilf Bennett Trophy final will be contested by Bicester & North Oxford and Thame Town.

l OXFORDSHIRE’s campaign in the ECB Over 50 County Championship came to an end when they lost by six wickets to Sussex in their last-16 clash at Banbury Twenty Club.

Graham Charlesworth (44) and Nick Moorman (36) led the way as Oxon made 165 in a rain-affected match.

Sussex’s target was readjusted to 154 from 37 overs, and they won by six wickets with 4.4 overs to spare.

Oxon Over 50s’ B team cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Wiltshire in the Southern Counties Championship group game at Aston Rowant.

Chasing Wiltshire’s 224-5, Oxon were led to victory by Ian Harris, who hit 120 not out from 114 balls.

Good support came from Jonny Atkins (31) and Andrew Hodder-Williams (52no) as Oxon got home in the 38th over.

Oxon’s final game against Herfordshire was ruined by by rain.
