ASTON Rowant hope for a profitable day both on and off the pitch as they bid to continue their Watsons Village Cup dream this weekend.

The Home Counties Premier League club are two wins away from Lord's and face Welsh side Ynystawe in the quarter-finals on Sunday (1pm).

Rowant are hoping to reach the last four for the first time since 1984.

And they are expecting a bumper crowd at their Butts Way ground, with the possibility of up to two coach-loads, including a choir, descending on the Oxfordshire village from Swansea.

While they are unsure how many people could attend, chairman Paul Humphreys says the club are prepared.

He said: “Whether they turn up or not, I don’t know, but I’ve written to the Ynystawe chairman just asking a few questions to see if they can finalise more on numbers.”

Rowant have submitted a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council to build a new pavilion.

According to Humphreys, the club’s cup exploits would go a long way to helping fund the project.

He added: “We took £2,700 over the bar last time (against Rockhampton) and on top of that we had cakes, a BBQ and a raffle.

“We would like to break that record, that’s the highest we’ve earned in one day.

“The treasurer would like to be north of £3,000, let’s hope the Welsh can drink more than the people of Gloucestershire.”

Sasha Barras took seven wickets as Rowant beat Rockhampton in the second national round a fortnight ago and now they are eyeing a semi-final spot.

Humphreys added: “It’s over to the boys to get the job done, but Ynystawe will be tough opposition.

“You don’t get to the quarters unless you can play, but it’s on our pitch and it will take a good side to beat us.”
