CAPTAIN Josh Smith is backing Aston Rowant to continue their winning ways as they eye a place in the quarter-finals of the Watsons Village Cup.
The Oxfordshire champions take on 2013 finalists Rockhampton, of Gloucestershire, at their Butts Way ground in the last-32 on Sunday.
Adam Muttitt has proved Rowant’s hero with bat and ball in the last two rounds – final-over victories over Cumnor and Cookham Dean.
Smith, who is ineligible having played first-class cricket and for Oxfordshire, believes the club, who are top of Division 2 in the Home Counties Premier League, can continue their run.
He said: “It’s great for everyone.
“With the senior guys not available to play it means some of the younger ones get to play pressurised cricket.
“There’s a massive buzz around the club.
“I will be there watching and we’ll see what happens.
“It’s good to be winning games whether it be Saturday, Sunday or on a Wednesday – winning is a habit.”
Chairman Paul Humphreys added: “They’ve got a good reputation in this competition, so we will definitely not be taking them lightly.”
