Chad Keegan says Oxfordshire head into Sunday’s Unicorns Counties Trophy match against Buckinghamshire at Wormsley full of confidence after a ten-wicket victory over Herefordshire.

The 35-year-old right-arm fast bowler took four wickets in last Sunday’s convincing victory in their opening Group 4 fixture.

After reaching the final last year and kicking off their campaign so comprehensively, Keegan says morale is extremely high.

“There is a lot of confidence in the dressing room and what a performance,” said the Johannesburg-born bowler. We did the job and we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.

“It is one game at a time, but what a way to start.”

Oxfordshire restricted Herefordshire to 103, which Hugo Darby and debutant Joe White comfortably chased down in 27 overs.

Keegan was full of praise for both batsmen with Darby scoring 55 and White 38, while they hit ten boundaries between them.

He continued: “They almost made it look easy, but we had a plan of how to bat on that wicket and it worked.

“It is great confidence for the two young guys and hopefully we can all carry on as a team and have that confidence in our top order.”

Buckinghamshire are searching for their first win after defeats to Staffordshire and Berkshire, but Keegan says he is only focused on himself and his teammates.

He added: “I focus on having the right plans on the right days when you see the conditions.

“I don’t focus on the opposition much at all.

“If you get a partnership you have to deal with it out in the middle; if you are rolling through you have to keep the pressure on.

“It is just another game, it does not matter who it is.”

Banbury seamer Ollie Wright makes his county debut, replacing the injured Will Rooney (shoulder), while Richard Kaufman comes in for Curtly Slatter.

Shabaz Alam is still injured after damaging his ankle in a warm-up last Saturday.
