Hannah England says she is ‘greatly honoured’ to be in the running for Oxfordshire Sportswoman of the year again.

The 1,500m athlete, who won a silver medal in the World Championships in South Korea, landed the award in 2009.

But after her exploits this year, the Oxford City star has again been shortlisted for the county’s top prize – and will find out if she is a double winner at the awards night on December 9.

And while much has been made of no woman making the final shortlist in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, England says that having these local awards is a great incentive for all sports people in Oxfordshire.

“It’s a great honour to be nominated for the Oxfordshire Sportswoman of the year once again,” she said.

“I was lucky enough to attend the awards two years ago, and it was great to see how much high-level sport is going on in the county.

“It is also great to see this being recognised.”

Speaking from an altitude camp in Kenya, where she has been training for the past month, England this week gave her support to next year’s Oxford Mail Ox5 run – further evidence of her loyalty to her roots.

Her training programme has been mapped out for next year’s summer Games.

“I am excited to have started my training for the Olympics,” she added.

England did make one of the shortlists compiled for the Sports Personality of the Year, but missed out on a place in the final ten, along with every other sportswoman in the country.
