ATHLETICS: England expects tough year ahead

OXFORD City star Hannah England has opted out of an indoor season to concentrate her focus on this summer’s European Championships in Barcelona.

England, who was in Birmingham on Sunday watching the UK Indoor Grand Prix, said: “I have had a nagging foot injury which started indoors last year.

“I don’t want to put it through the stress of being indoors, I want to get rid of it before the outdoor season starts.”

With the European Championships and Commonwealth Games in India on the horizon, England said: “I am training in Birmingham and will have a race in California to see where I am at.

“My first serious race is in the Netherlands, and after that I will be focusing on selection for GB for the Europeans and Commonwealth Games.”
