STEVE Naylor produced a dominant performance to win the second round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Adderbury.

The Woodstock Harrier completed the route in 27mins 26secs, beating Paul Fernandez, of Abingdon, by just under a minute-and-a-half.

His victory helped Woodstock top Division 2 of the team standings.

Newbury, once again, won Division 1, with Abingdon second and Alchester third.

Sophie Crumly, of Newbury, clinched back-to-back victories, beating Eynsham’s Hannah Hale by 38 seconds.

Her victory helped the Berkshire side top Division 1 ahead of Alchester, whose Sarah Rendell was second vet 35 behind Eynsham’s Liz McAllister.

Abingdon’s A and B teams won Divisions 2 and 3, with three runners in the top 20, including Sarah Lackman fourth and Fiona Bunn sixth.

Bicester’s Ben West secured successive victories in the combined under 15/17 boys race, beating Abingdon’s Jack Shayler by 27 seconds.

Radley’s stranglehold on the under 13 event continued, with five runners in the top ten. They lead the team standings by 44 points.

Benjamin Cumberland won for the second race running, with Rowan Miell-Ingram third.

Radley’s Quinn Miell-Ingram triumphed in the under 11 event.

In the under 15/17 girls race, Katie Scott, of Radley, came second behind Isobel Fry, of Newbury.

Oxford City took team honours in the under 13 competition as Clover de Jonge won in 9.43, with clubmate Olivia Martin second.

City’s Isabelle Martin came third in the under 11 race as Newbury’s Josie Robertson triumphed.

ORGANISERS are concerned about the league's future after being forced to cancel the third round.

Due to be held on Sunday, January 8, officials have called off the race after being unable to confirm a venue.

League manager Dene Stringfellow said changes in landowners is one of the main issues behind losing four of last year’s five locations.

When asked if the future of the championships was in doubt, he said: “It could be if venues continue to be unavailable.”

Stringfellow says the biggest issue is parking, with about 500 vehicles at every round.

He added: “The intention is to try and get the fixtures pre-booked two years in advance. It will instill more confidence within the whole league.”

The third round also incorporated the Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships, which has now been moved to January 7.

It will be held in conjunction with the Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire AA Cross Country Championship at Stowe School, Bucks.
