JADE O’Dowda enjoyed a stellar weekend at the South of England Championships, clinching gold and bronze in Ashford.

The Oxford City youngster triumphed in the under 17 80m hurdles, with a personal best of 11.48secs.

O’Dowda’s time moves her up to fourth in the national rankings for her age group.

The 16-year-old, who is coached by Marcia Marriott, then came third in the long jump with an effort of 5.41m.

Clubmate Katie Hetherington won bronze in the high jump.

Both athletes now head to this weekend’s England Athletics U15/U17 Combined Events Championships in Bedford in a confident mood.

Radley’s Holly Griffiths-Brown was also in fine form in Ashford, landing triple jump gold.

The under 15 athlete dominated the competition, landing 10.58m – among the top five jumps in the country for her age group this year – in the first round.

No one could respond and Griffiths-Brown peaked with 10.77 in the fourth round, helping her to 24th on the UK all-time rankings.

All six of her jumps would have won her the gold medal.

Clubmate Harry New clinched bronze in the under 17 men’s 400m hurdles.

He went head-to-head with teammate Blake Strickland Bennett, who was in third place before the penultimate hurdle.

But New finished strongly to win a medal, while Strickland Bennett came fifth.
