OXFORDSHIRE hurdler Lawrence Clarke has been selected for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland later this month.

The 25-year-old from Christmas Common, near Watlington, is part of a 23-strong Great Britain team for the event in Amercia on March 17-20.

Clarke took silver in the 60m hurdles at the British Indoor Championships on Saturday.

And although that did not ensure automatic selection for Portland he had run the qualifying time of 7.72secs on five occasions this year.

Andy Pozzi, who beat Clarke in Sheffield at the weekend, declined selection to concentrate on the outdoor season.

Another athlete who has an eye on this year's Olympics in Rio is Oxford City middle-distance runner Hannah England.

The 28-year-old won selection for the world indoors after becoming 1,500m British champion for the first time on Sunday.

But as reported in Monday's Oxford Mail, England turned down selection to go altitude training in France.
