LAWRENCE Clarke has booked his place at the World Championships in Beijing next month after winning the 110m hurdles at the Loughborough European Athletics Permit meeting.
The 25-year-old, from Christmas Common near Watlington, met the selection criteria for the World Championships, which begins on August 22, by beating the qualification standard of 13.47secs.
He won in 13.44 at Loughborough, after finishing third at Lucerne earlier this month in 13.39.
Clarke beat Brazil’s Jaoa Oliveira in Leicestershire and was delighted to have set his second qualification mark.
He said: “I’m pleased with that.
“We had perfect conditions although we had two false starts, which put me off a little.”

Clarke continued: “This was essentially the British Championships final, as William Sharman and David Omoregie were here and they weren’t at the nationals.
“It was really pleasing to come out on top, get that second qualifying time, so now I’m on my way to Beijing.”
