JADE O’Dowda shot to the top of the UK under 17 heptathlon rankings with an impressive performance as a guest competitor at the Somerset Schools’ Combined Events Championships.
The Oxford City athlete, 15, led from start to finish at Millfield School on the way to a personal best score of 4,559 points.
O’Dowda, from Kidlington, finished 119 points ahead of nearest challenger, Cornwall’s Georgia Doyle-Lay.
She surpassed her best marks in the shot and 800m and received national standard badges for results in the high jump and her overall score.

U17 heptathlon: 1 J O’Dowda 4559 points (pb). Individual event results: 80mH: 11.95 secs. High jump: 1.69m. Shot put: 10.72 (pb). 200m 26.58. Long jump: 5.00. Javelin: 22.88. 800m: 2mins 30.65secs (pb).
