OXFORD City AC’s A team beat hosts Abingdon by four minutes to claim the men’s title at the Oxfordshire County Road Relays.

Held at Abingdon Rugby Club in Lambrick Way, Oxford’s six-man team of Les Newell, Callum Bampton, Matthieu Marshall, Maxwell Robinson, Simon Fisher and David Bruce stormed to a time of 1hr 44mins 17secs.

Bruce’s leg of 16mins 54secs was the quickest of the event, just two seconds faster than Abingdon’s Paul Fernandez and three from James Bolton, of Woodstock Harriers.

Such was Oxford’s dominance that six of their athletes, including B team and veteran, were in the top ten individual men’s standings.

They also won the under 13/15 girls race, crossed second in the ladies and were third in the veteran men’s.

Sophie Carter, Denise Bridges and Jessica Webb ensured Woodstock A clinched the ladies’ title.

Sam Usher, Sarah Rendell and Jenny McBain helped Alchester’s A team storm to victory by more than nine minutes in the veterans event.

Headington Road Runners A claimed the veteran men’s title, while Abingdon A won the under 13/15 boys.
