Named as a reserve, Richardson, was the first vet 45 man home in the open race over 8km, recording 26.54.

This time would have placed him fifth and fourth Englishman home in the main event.

England, however, still took team gold.

City’s Stewart Thorp (31.34) and John Exley (25.52) were second vet 60 and fourth vet 65 respectively in their open races over 8km and 6km.
