RISING star David Omoregie set a new 110m hurdles track record during Oxford City’s open meeting at Horspath.

The 18-year-old Cardiff AC member clocked 13.71secs in wet conditions.

Omoregie, who could compete in the World Junior Championships or the Commonwealth Games this summer, won by a massive 1.27secs.

Oxfordshire AA chairman John Sear said: “The time was phenomenal under the circumstances, and is certainly the ground record for Horspath.”

Omoregie followed this up on Sunday by winning the Welsh Commonwealth Games Trials in 13.61.

He is now ranked fifth in the UK and the top under 20 athlete.

  • MICHAEL Fabes and Fiona Bunn powered to victory in the Oxfordshire 3,000m Championships at Horspath.

Fabes claimed the under 17 boys’ title in 10mins 9.74secs, while Abingdon AC clubmate Bunn took the girls’ crown in 10.48.54.

  • RADLEY’S Henry Tufnell qualified for the national university finals in the USA.

The 21-year-old, studying at Brown University, Rhode Island will run in the 800m at the National Collegiate Athletic Association finals in Oregon next week.

Tufnell progressed after clocking 1min 47.99secs in the east preliminary round at Jacksonville, Florida.

  • EYNSHAM Road Runners’ Mark Tyrrell finished fifth in the Fairford 10K.

Tyrrell completed the hilly course in 34mins 53secs.

Hannah Hale broke Eynsham’s club record when coming 30th and third lady in 39.25.

Clubmate Kate Williamson (46.44) was the first vet 65 lady home.

  • MICHAEL Fabes and Fiona Bunn powered to victory in the Oxfordshire 3,000m Championships at Horspath.

Fabes claimed the under 17 boys’ title, while Abingdon AC clubmate Bunn took the equivalent girls’ crown.

The junior 3,000m race was held three days after the main county championships and in heavy rain, but the Abingdon pair could not be denied.

Fabes stormed home in 10mins 9.74secs, while Bunn recorded 10.48.54.

  • DAVID Kuester won five gold medals on his vet 70 debut in the combined Surrey and Sussex Masters and Veterans AC Championships at Ewell.

The Bicester throws specialist scooped victories in the 4kg hammer (34.85m), 4kg shot putt (9.95), 1kg discus (29.90), 500g javelin (30.67) and 7.26kg heavy hammer (14.27).
