SWIMMING: City get season off to solid start

City of Oxford took second in the first round of National Arena League Premier Division South in Horsham.

Lisa Van Breugal (17) won the ladies open 100m freestyle, Elizabeth Oliver (15) the 100m backstroke, Harry Basterfield (14) the 15 & under 100m freestyle, Isobel Meikle (13) the 13 & under 100m butterfly, and Robert Youngs Do Patrocinio (12) in the 100m breaststroke.

Rachel Allen, Maia Little, Ellie Millington, Isobel Meikle took the 13-year-old girls’ 50m medley relay in a time of 2mins 9.15 secs.

Meikle and Millington then linked up with Emily Nesbit and Olivia Webster to win the 50m freestyle in 1.55.33.

Oliver, Eleanor McNally, Kate Mills and Lucy Smith triumphed in the 15-year-old girls 50m medley (2.05.31) and freestyle relays (1.52.14).

Harry Basterfield, Alex Chung, Nathanial Armstrong and Ryan Smith won the 15-year-old boys 50m medley relay in 1.59.01.

Basterfield, Armstrong and Smith were joined by Alex Chung to take the 50m freestyle title in 1.45.39.

Gala result: 1 Guildford 262 pts, 2 Oxford 204, 3 Bracknell & Wokingham 179, 4 Epsom 174, 5 Atlantis 122, 6 Canterbury 109.
