BAR BILLIARDS: Vikings hit back to lead the way

Vikings Sports Club top the Johnson Buildbase Oxford League Premier Section by a point after a 4-1 victory at home to Masons B, writes PETE EWINS.

Masons’ Chris Webb (3,680), took the opener, but then Alan Oliver, Bob Allsworth (5,200), Lewis Stratford (6,240) and Allan Lacey (9,020) reeled off the next four games. Kennington were surprised 3-2 at Premier newcomers Comrades Club.

Chris Alexander (7,670), Adam Thorn (8,760) and skipper Simon Ellam (9,730) rocked the champions by taking the opening three games.

Steven Sheard (7,800) and Mark Trafford (4,160) replied for Kennington.

West Oxford Democrats Club triumphed 3-2 at home to Didcot Conservative Club.

Billy Hill (5,080), Terry Green (4,880) and unbeaten John Patey (8,790) were Democrats’ victors, with Jenny Florey (4,140) and Dennis Atkins (7,790) replying.

Masons A won 3-2 at home to Berinsfield Club in Section 1. Martyn Wood (4,240) was top scorer for Masons with Craig Mace (4,380) leading the way for Berinsfield.

Gladiators Club A are the early Section 2 leaders after a 5-0 win at Marlborough Club.

Frank Cox (6,300), Bob Pincombe (5,690), Keith Gardner (3,320), Malcolm Lee (2,370) and Bert Lovegrove (3,320) made it a clean sweep.

Vikings 4, Masons B 1; Masons A 3, Berinsfield 2; West Oxford Democrats 3, Didcot Con Club 2; Dolphin 1, Headington Con Club 4; Marlborough 0, Gladiators A 5; Comrades 3, Kennington 2.
