HARWELL held on to edge out Abingdon 25-21 in the preliminary round.
The hosts looked in contol when leading 25-7 in the second half, but two late tries from Abingdon made it tense.
Jamie Cantwell’s try, plus two Jack Robinson penalties, put Harwell 11-0 up.
Abingdon were awarded a penalty try right on half time, Mark Roberts converting.
Harwell gained a penalty try themselves, while Andy Lee also scored, Robinson converting both.
Driving forward play saw Abingdon’s Mikey Nichol and Richard Broughton bag tries, Roberts converting both.
Harwell will face Chipping Norton, who beat Gosford All Blacks 47-13, in the first round on November 10 or 11.
