FOOTBALL: North Leigh back in the groove
10:00am Monday 15th October 2012 in Sport
Taunton Tn 0
North Leigh 2
(Hopkins 49, Mills pen 85)
Two second-half goals saw North Leigh make a winning return to Evo-Stick Southern League Division 1 South & West action at Taunton Town.
Mark Gee’s side, who hadn’t played a league game for six weeks due to their FA Cup and Trophy commitments, were quickly out of the blocks in the second half following a lacklustre first-half show.
Following a series of five corners, the opening goal came on 49 minutes.
Another flag-kick was only cleared as far as Lewis Coyle, who crossed deep to the far post where Michael Hopkins ran in to head past home keeper Connor Sidley-Adams.
Substitute Jimmy Deabill’s aerial skills were worrying the home defence, and his header just cleared the bar, before a Hopkins shot skimmed a post.
The second goal came on 82 minutes when John Mills beat the offside trap, only to be brought down by Sidley-Adams, who was sent off, and a penalty awarded.
Replacement keeper Rob Norrish went in goal, but couldn’t prevent Mills scoring from the spot.
The first half had seen Coyle go close for North Leigh, while Taunton’s James Blake hit the bar following a Wayne Turk slip.
North Leigh: Warrell, Westlake (Alexis 85), Organ, Turk, Franklin, Caton, Else (Deabill 65), Hole (Clark 70), Mills, Coyle, Hopkins.
