FOOTBALL: Ardley hit back

Ardley United snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in a 2-1 win at Cheltenham Saracens in the FA Carlsberg Vase first round on Saturday.

Trailing to Chris Sayce’s first-half goal, Ardley hit back with strikes from Joe Coleman and Troy Bryan in the last seven minutes.

Wantage Town cruised to an 8-1 win at Sandhurst Town. Richie Claydon and Brad Chalmers bagged braces, with Tom Malton, Tony Joyce, Graham Edney and Liam McCullough also on target.

Thame United came from behind to win 3-2 against Fairford Town at the ASM Stadium in front of a crowd of 213.

Nik Rhodes, Dan West and Ben Gray scored for Thame, after Cameron McClarty and Dan Drewett had put the visitors 2-1 up.

Witney Town went out 2-0 at home to Ascot United.

Lee Boon broke the deadlock in the second half, and Ben Knight’s breakaway goal sealed Witney’s fate.

Oxford City Nomads won 2-1 at home to Windsor yesterday.

Jamie Munday and Andrew Styles netted for Nomads, with Tom Mudge replying.
