Clarke not certain of Oxford United starting role against Wombles
RYAN Clarke could again be among the substitutes tonight as Oxford United look to end their losing streak against AFC Wimbledon.
The stakes are high as the U’s attempt to avoid a club record seventh successive league defeat.
But they may again be without their first choice goalkeeper, who was dropped for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Rotherham.
United manager Chris Wilder made the move after feeling Clarke’s form had dipped and although the 30-year-old will return at some stage, Wayne Brown could continue in goal tonight.
The U’s boss said: “Ryan’s our No 1 and he’ll be back in the team sooner rather than later, there’s no doubt about that because he’s a quality goalkeeper, but he’s just having a bit of a dip.
“It might not be (tonight), it might not be Saturday, but he’ll be back.”
Adam Chapman (ankle) remains on the sidelines, but Harry Worley and Peter Leven will again play some part despite not being fully fit.
Up front James Constable and Deane Smalley are pushing for a recall in place of Tom Craddock. AFC Wimbledon’s recent form has almost been as bad as United’s with five defeats in their last six games.
Caretaker manager Simon Bassey could recall former U’s striker Jack Midson, who is available after serving a three-game suspension.
Defender Yado Mambo is in line to make his debut after signing a one-month loan move from Charlton Athletic yesterday.
