MOTORSPORT: Meadows stretches lead in title race

Banbury's Michael Meadows posted two podium finishes at Rockingham to increase his lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

The 25-year-old Redline Racing driver, from Shutford, finished third in both races as Ben Barker recorded a double.

Meadows said: “This is the only weekend we’ve not been in contention for race wins, so to come away with two podiums is good.”

CHIPPING Norton’s Fergus Walkinshaw put in a sterling recovery drive at Rockingham to post an eighth-place finish in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup.

The 21-year-old was only given medical clearance to race four hours beforehand, following treatment received for the inhalation of fumes after the previous day’s race.

Forced to take to the grass to avoid an incident, the debris lodged in the radiator caused the engine to overheat and fumes breached the cockpit.

Walkinshaw’s 18-year-old brother, Sean, competes in the InterSteps Championship finale in Yorkshire this weekend, having returned from testing a Walkinshaw Racing-run V8 Ute in Australia.
