ANGLING: Ryman delivers in carp finale
11:00am Saturday 29th September 2012 in Sport
Matt Ryman topped the field in the final round of the Carp League 2012 competition, fished in horrendous conditions at Rissington.
Driving rain and a strong wind made fishing uncomfortable for the 14 hardy souls, but plenty of fish were caught.
Andy Benwell had clinched the title in the previous round, but there was stil interest in the remaining places.
Ryman (Predator) fished the pole with meat as hookbait, taking carp to 10lb for a winning 175.4.0.
Mick Lane’s 162.2.0 earned him second place on the day and runner-up spot overall. He fished the pole at 13m and down the edge, and caught plenty of carp using dead maggots over a bed of groundbait.
Third-placed Andy Wiffen had an all-carp catch, using meat at 4m with the pole for 148.2.0. He was also third overall.
Final placings: 1 A Benwell 17pts, 2 M Lane 19, 3 A Wiffen 21, 4 C Partridge 27, 5 I Graham 29.
Eleven anglers fished Tackley Estates AC’s latest match at Lower Court Farm, where one fish denied second and third from taking their £100 golden pegs.
Anthony Alder bagged top spot with 21.0.0 of carp and bits on pole, maggot and pellet, pipping Stephen Malone with 20.12.0 and Frank Malone (20.4.0).
