Chinnor flanker Liam Gilbert shows his delight after scoring their bonus-point try against Barking
National 2 South
CHINNOR produced a solid display to beat Barking 34-18, earning a bonus-point victory in their first home match since April.
Blindside flanker Liam Gilbert scored the all-important fourth try on 75 minutes to leave Chinnor in seventh place with 11 points from their three matches.
The hosts gave a first start to openside flanker Evan Sawyer, while Alan Cawston, who is playing his 16th season of first-team rugby at Chinnor, came in at hooker.
Fly half James Cathcart kicked Chinnor ahead with a fifth-minute penalty before Matt Goode’s midfield break allowed fellow centre Sam Stoop to canter under the posts, Cathcart converting.
Barking fly half Oliver Forrest slotted a penalty then exchanged three-pointers with Cathcart to make it 13-6 at half-time.
Good work from wing Pip Seymour was rewarded when No 8 Joe Kava powered over for Chinnor’s second try, converted by Cathcart.
Barking full back Mark Woollard was yellow-carded for deliberate off-side the visitors denied Chinnor a great try-scoring chance.
But from the resulting scrum, the ball was zipped to full back Henry Colver, who went over, Cathcart converting for 27-6.
Barking replied with try from No 8 Mitchell Sinfield, while visiting wing Charles Baffour-Awuah and Stoop were yellow-carded.
Gilbert, who had seen an earlier try disallowed for a forward pass, sealed the bonus-point and Cathcart converted.
