RUGBY UNION: Hawks hammer Clifton

National 2 South

JAMES Comben scored 26 points as leaders Henley Hawks hammered Clifton 71-7 at Dry Leas.

The fly half bagged two tries and eight conversions, but this was a great team display.

Flanker Matt Payne went over from a fourth-minute penalty and the tries kept coming.

Centre Danny Wells, No 8 Robbie Stapley and wing Richard Briggs all touched down inside 28 minutes, Comben converting each.

Scrum half Jack Shaylor’s off-load created Wells’s second try before half-time.

Full back Martin Nutt opened the second-half try tally, followed by Payne and a superb solo effort from Comben, who kicked four more conversions.

Comben struck again after combining with Shaylor.

Centre and captain James Colledge scored for Clifton after some good pressure, with fly half Ben Roberts converting.

Henley replacements, prop Dai Maddocks and Ant Brennan, completed the 11-try salvo late on.
