Oxford United suffered their fifth straight defeat today, when Bradford scored from two set-pieces to take the points.
Left-flank corners from Gary Jones were turned in by Andrew Davies on 51 minutes and Nahki Wells on 68 to increase United's worrying run.
The first was simple - the centre half rising the highest to nod in from eight yards out.
The second was particularly poor from United's point of view - a flick from Rory McCardle at the near post was turned in by Wells two yards out. Both players were unmarked.
United, visibly low on confidence, did not muster a shot on goal until the 70th minute, when substitute Peter Leven saw his free-kick saved.
But that was as good as it got for United, who could have lost by more had keeper Ryan Clarke not produced a stunning one-handed stop to deny Will Atkinson on 76 minutes.
Chris Wilder made three changes to his team, one of which was forced.
Jon-Paul Pittman, injured at Cheltenham on Tuesday was ruled out, with Sean Rigg and Deane Smalley dropping to the bench.
James Constable came in, with Alfie Potter recalled and Luke O'Brien handed his debut.
It was a very scrappy first half, with neither side able to take assert their authority.
Both were quick to give away possession when they got the ball back, and chances were at a premium.
Kyle Reid had the first shot for the visitors, but his left-foot effort flew narrowly wide.
Constable tried to get on the end of a cross from Potter, but under pressure from McCardle, was unable to do so. The Oxford man claimed a penalty, but his appeals were waved away.
Clarke had a let-off after rushing out his area in the 18th minute.
Wells beat him to the ball wide on the left, but United's keeper retreated quickly enough to save his shot.
From the corner, United's No 1 was clearly fouled by James Hanson, but referee Andy Davies waved away Clarke's appeals.
It was to be, however, the start of a succession of fouls by the Bradford forward, who led with his elbow when challenging Michael Raynes on the stroke of half-time and was rightly booked.
In between, good work from Damian Batt gives Tony Capaldi the chance to shoot - but his 27th-minute effort went well wide.
Tom Craddock's ambitious free-kick struck the wall and Hanson headed wide from a deep left-wing cross.
Bradford almost made a superb start to the second period, but Clarke was equal to Gary Jones's free-kick, holding on well.
United's keeper then had to dive to his right to keep out Reid's shot.
But from the corner, Andrew Davies rose the highest to nod in from eight yards out.
United's crowd had been patient with the players, but frustration was beginning to go as more and more misplaced passes went astray - some basic ones.
With just under 30 minutes remaining, Wilder replaced O'Brien - who can be satisfied with his first appearance - and Heslop, with Leven and Rigg.
Constable lashed over a left-foot shot, but it at least got the crowd back in voice, urging their team forward.
There was now real urgency in United's play, but still they couldn't test John McLaughlin.
And they were then hit by a sucker punch as from another Jones corner on the left, a flick from McCardle was turned in by Wells two yards out.
Leven had Oxford's first shot on target in the 70th minute, but his free-kick was saved by McLaughlin.
Atkinson beat Michael Raynes and Leven on a surging run, but Clarke made a stunning one-handed save to keep out his effort.
And although United looked to get back into the game, were unable to manufacture a clear opening, and left the field to a chorus of boos.

This performance was a disgrace. If we played like that for the rest of the season we would be relegated by Christmas.
Wilder has to go and go quickly because every day he remains here is damaging the club.

Your manager sticking so rigidly to 4--3-3 is frankly laughable when so few others do it with better players and still struggle. Even by your standards it is surely a bit early to be sliding down the table with such panache.
After our dire season two years back we know what it is like, get Wilder out while you still have a chance .

We can rescue this season if there is a change now or we can accept that as a club we are heading back to the dark ages. If Lenagan wants his investment back he needs to react now. The fans deserve far better(again) that the garbage being served. I won't be returning to games until there is a change- my protest means nothing but if 2-3 thousand feel the same Lenagan should wake up and Wilder should be gone.

Wilder got you out of the BSP, but really you have not progressed as you should since. On the other hand he has had little money to do anything with, not exactly his fault. You should have sold Beano and got the money to spend on the team, Beano has done sweet little since in the greater scheme of things.
It is not the fault of the fans you are where you are, but mis management, and your owner is from what many can see more into RFU than OU. That is something you guys need to sort out. I wish you luck, and by looks of things right now, you could do with some.

We have a bleakish outlook and every time it looks like we're moving forwards something happens to drag us back. Lenagan appears disinterested two key personnel have left the board and nothing has been said. Fans won't and shouldn't keep pouring money into a club that has little respect for them. I've been supporting the club for a long time travelled all over the country to watch them and travel 300 miles round trip to watch a home game. Not any more. I fear for the club and the remarkable loyalty of fans is being mocked by the board and the manager.
I really can't believe Wilder is still in his job.

Yes, i'm in agreement that the manager has to go, and very soon. However, the far bigger issue imo is 'Where is the Chairman'? He was at the game, apparently -but we have heard nothing from him, and his planned interview on Radio Oxford on friday was 'Postponed' ??????

I'm a CW fan but apparently his all stems from the Youth policy, CW & Lenagan don't get on. So why is it that Oxford fans who spends his hard earned cash the one paying the price?? Be honest come out & sort it. We all know if things aren't right in the Football club it will affect players, on the field, please sort it!!!
No wonder the Scum fans are laughing!!!

an management etc. The players he has assembled are either no good or he is not getting the best out of them - you decide which but both are his fault.
You can't trust him to spend in January when he buys players likeCraddock and Smalley. The injured players all seem to have become saviours since they have become unavailable when in truth they are either reserves or finished for good.
The real question is WHEN will Lenegan pull the trigger. For those that want him to stay be aware that the damage being done will itself take time to fix and even if he goes now we won't reallistically be able to get to league one until August 2014 at the earliest.
For those that want him to stay - what are you seeing that I'm not ?
By the way the statistic being bandied around at present about scoring more than two goels says a lot. Could anyone tell me how many times we have come from behind to win under Wilder.?
It really is very rare

You could see that the team has been effected by injury, and for a non-fit sub to be the first to hit the target says at lot. In one way i'm Glad Tyrone Marsh didn't come on for his own sake, but wonder if a change were the ball was passed through their back line with a pacey lad to run onto it might have given some sort of result.
So 6032 were there to witness this last pathetic display, we'll be lucky to have 5000 for the Wimbledon game unless something drastic happens.
Last point; I have to agree with all those mentioning about the silence that is coming form the club. if they expect us to turn up week in, week out, they need to be a bit more open with us, because as supporters I feel we deserve to know what's going on.
Time for change me thinks !!!!

Oh and BigChef - glad you enjoyed your trip down the 420 at least you got to see what a football ground should look like. Congratulations on the six points you took from us as well but can you remind me out of our two respective teams who was it that got promoted as champions and who managed to spectacularly avoid the play-offs? Oh and well done on your JPT success against us too. Saw cracking shot from Constable on the FL show -he was really unlucky it was only a whisker over the bar - well a 10-15 foot whisker. what a prolific striker he's turned out to be - your lot must be really glad you persuaded him to stay by sending him hate mail when he was talking to Paolo about defecting. Mind you at least if he'd have come here he'd be fit - unlike the tub of lard I saw on TV yesterday.
Onwards and upwards for us sideways and downwards for your lot!

There have been many parallels between our clubs over the years, both been in the top flight, both had some good players, both had bad boards, and both have had some rather indifferent managers. I think most would agree with that.
Kassam came along and "rescued" you after the fall out that was Maxwell, nobody could have fore saw Maxwells level of corruption, least of all the fan base. Kassam paid of the debts and saw a business opportunity and took it. The problem is now, your rent is stifling your progress. Wilder hasn't had money to spend freely and what he has spent hasn't worked. You have many injuries right now, so I question his pre season and levels of fitness of the players, the right training etc Either way, it seems you are stuck with him, an indifferent team, which he has built, and an owner who is more RFU than OU. Add to that a landlord who wants his money. None of that is down to the fan base. I don't envy you, your situation is not of your making. The only option seems to be a massive boycot of the next home game, to show your Chairman exactly how you feel. Not nice, but staying away en-mass will attract more publicity than protests with placards and scuffles with stewards and police. Said publicity would bring the message home to all those with a voice in the club, something would have to give. Loss of a good revenue will focus attention on the pocket of the chairman. perhaps you could then persuade to Ox mail to do a poll of who you want for your next manager, further pressure, although I doubt they would do that until after Wilder had left.

The injuries are more down to bad luck and with a small squad have unfortunately a bigger impact.
Probably I'm stating the bleeding obvious but, if say you did sack CW what resources are available to pay him off and also get in a manager of quality - and how will this effect the new managers spending budget when he wants to bring in his own cronies and Messi. Its all a minefield.

Thanks for that, my hope is, believe it or not, is that both clubs should do well and at least then we both have something of a derby game to look forward to.
Add to that , it is important to maintain all the clubs in the Football League. having been through the mill at SN1 and watching other clubs suffer the same is no joke. From my perspective, Chairmen, directors, managers and players all come and go, the only folk ever loyal to any club are the supporters, and I don't like to see any supporters going through it, simple as that. Your Chairman needs to be made aware of the fans feelings, you could all ring in and jam the switchboard, send in letters etc, but the action needs to be unified and simultaneous to have any effect. Moaning on here is not enough, unified action is better, several thousand turning up, but not going through the turnstiles is something else, but 100% staying away is better, no money going through the turnstiles is a very pointed message. The players when they come out onto the pitch would also receive a very stark message, some very concentrated thinking would have to be done after that.
