OXFORD’S Hannah England will look to maintain her steady improvement at New York’s Fifth Avenue Mile when she ends her season on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Oxford City athlete finished fifth in 2009 on her debut in the prestigious road race, followed by fourth in 2010 and third last year.

If she is to go one or two better this time, England will probably have to beat defending champion, American Jenny Simpson, who pipped her to the world 1,500m title in 2011.

England tweeted: “Starting to get really excited to go to New York this weekend, 4th year I’ve ended my season there.”

The men’s and women’s professionals races in New York will feature 14 Olympians from four nations.

England showed good road running form to finish second in the women’s mile race at the Great North CityGames on Saturday, but will need to raise her game to win in the Big Apple.

“This is a crazy great Fifth Avenue Mile field,” said New York Road Runners’ president Mary Wittenberg.

“Capping an Olympic year of highs and lows for many of the world’s best milers, Fifth Ave provides the drama of the last curtain call.”

• OXFORD City’s Darrell Bellinger smashed through the 15-minute barrier to win the Radley College 5,000m in cool, windy conditions.

Bellinger stormed home in 14mins 53secs to take victory from Abingdon Amblers duo Dan Hamilton (15.42.4) and Paul Fernandez (15.53.3).

• ABINGDON Amblers Richard Kemp and Carrie Bolton were the third man and lady at the Medmenham ten mile race.

They clocked 1hr 5mins 37secs and 1.21.57 respectively.

• HEADINGTON Road Runners finished as 16th club in the 197-mile Round Norfolk Relay.

Laurie Hurman, Sandra Wolanski, Alun Ward and Harriet Griffiths were all fourth in their age categories, while Headington’s overall time was 26hrs 59mins 14secs.
