RUGBY UNION: Alchester go third after comeback

Southern Counties North

ALCHESTER battled back from 13-0 down to win 29-20 at Aylesbury and climb to third in the table.

Aylesbury led 6-0 thanks to two penalties from fly half James Woodfall, while Alchester had Charlie Surman sin-binned for handling in the ruck.

Wing Pete Kemp’s try, converted by Woodfall, made it 13-0.

But Alchester hit back when wing Andy Blacklock went over before the break, fly half Tom Miles converting.

Flanker Adam Thompson bulldozed over following Blacklock’s pass and Miles converted.

A break from Joe McEneaney set up try No 3 for Miles, who added a penalty and converted a fourth try from Matt Flegg.

Miles was yellow-carded before Aylesbury’s Kriss Hardman returned from the sin-bin to score a try converted by Woodfall.

Grove almost blew a 36-7 lead before holding on to defeat Slough 39-29.

Prop and captain James Eckert blasted over for Grove’s first try, but Slough replied with a converted score.

Wing Harry Carr grabbed a quickfire double, full back Roger Sevier converting both.

Centre Nick Sevier’s try and his brother Roger’s conversion made it 26-7 at half-time.

When Roger Sevier slotted a penalty and converted lock Paul Miles’s try it looked all over.

But Grove flanker Carl Alder was yellow-carded for killing the ball and Slough went on a run of four tries and a conversion to earn a bonus point.

Roger Sevier kicked a penalty in the midst of Slough’s surge – and his side were relieved to emerge victorious.

Wallingford lost 27-10 at Olney for their second reverse of the season.
