FOOTBALL: Mills in groove to claim victory
10:00am Monday 17th September 2012 in Sport
Godalming Tn 0
North Leigh 1
(Mills 21)
John Mills’s first-half strike earned North Leigh a deserved victory at Godalming Town in the FA Carlsberg Trophy preliminary round.
Mills should have fired the visitors ahead against the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 Central leaders in the 13th minute when he dragged his shot wide from five yards.
But he redeemed himself eight minutes later, clipping the ball past keeper Jake Somerville from ten yards after being put in by a great pass from Kieran Sanders.
Sam Warrell then made a good save to preserve North Leigh’s advantage at the break.
Substitute Jimmy Deabill had a couple of chances to increase North Leigh’s lead, but his first lacked power and the second was turned away.
Now North Leigh host Sholing on September 29.
North Leigh: Warrell, Hole, Organ, Turk, Franklin, Caton, Walcott (Else 65), Alexis (Deabill 74), Mills (Westlake 86), Sanders, Hopkins. Sub not used: Coyle.
Attendance: 150.
