TENNIS: Double joy for North Oxford
10:30am Friday 14th September 2012 in Sport
NORTH Oxford completed a double by winning the top men’s and women’s divisions in the OLTA Wilson League.
But they failed to make it a clean sweep, finishing third in mixed Division 1.
Virgin Active will win this title if they defeat fourth-placed Banbury A, who are unbeaten, this weekend.
Thame and Abingdon are promoted to mixed Division 1, although Abingdon had a scare losing 4-0 to Thame last weekend.
Bicester could have been promoted instead, but they lost 3-1 to Banbury B and so stay in Division 2.
Norham Gardens and Oxford Sports move up to men’s Division 1, while Thame and Cholsey are relegated to Division 2.
Banbury and Banbury West End re-join the ladies’ flight at the expense of Woodstock and Oxford Sports.
- TEENAGERS Josh Crossley (Standlake) and Robert Gosling (Woodstock) beat North Oxford pair Thomas Bowden and Dave Rooney in the doubles final at Woodstock’s annual men’s open tournament.
