CRICKET: Banbury grab second as Cater stars

BANBURY clinched runners-up spot behind Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Premier Division champions High Wycombe as Jonny Cater’s sparkling century secured a 119-run victory at Tring Park.
After being put in, Banbury slipped to 4-2 and then 61-4 before running riot in favourable batting conditions.
Cater hammered 136 off just 139 balls with four sixes and 18 fours to lead the chase as they reached a massive 309-6 from their 66 overs.
He shared a stand of 125 for the sixth wicket with Nathan Hawkes, whose unbeaten 64 came of 57 deliveries. Craig Haupt and Luke Ryan also batted freely to take apart the Tring attack Then the Banbury spinners go to to work.
Luke Ryan and Jimmy Phillips each picked up four wickets as only Keith Dutch of the Tring batsmen got beyond 50.
Ryan completed the victory with two quick wickets to confirm Banbury as the second best team in the league
