GREYHOUNDS: Knitting Nannies need your wool

THE nights are drawing in and a group of ladies are looking for any spare knitting wool – to enable them to create more like this.

Sam Nicholson-Munt, of Ladbrokes in Abingdon, has a group of ladies – the Knitting Nannies – who have been beavering away to produce a colourful collection of greyhound coats.

The sole purpose is to make sure dogs that the Oxford Retired Greyhound Trust have in there kennels are kept warm in the winter.

But they would like more wool to ensure that these ladies can keep up their good work.

A good idea to give greyhounds coats whilst they sit for hours in their RGT kennels, that is, the lucky ones who get into them. Trainers have told me that there are waiting lists of months. The greyhound rescues are all full up too. Please do not attend greyhound tracks or bet on the dogs. the tracks are lethal for the dogs - the fast straights leading into the tight bends cause pile ups, injuries and how many dogs are taken to the track vets to be given lethal injections for minor injuries? This happens frequently because the industry sees the dogs as objects to make money from and nothing more. It is dying and I will dance on its grave when the last stinking track closes down and all those involved have to get decent jobs.
