RUGBY UNION: Murton at the double

South West 1 East

TWO tries from Thom Murton helped Witney get their campaign off to a flier with a 22-15 home victory over Cheltenham.

Cheltenham took the lead with a first-minute try, with Murton levelling after some good off-loading.

The visitors added a converted try and a penalty to make it 15-5, but Witney used the wind well to turn it round in the second half.

Scrum half Gareth Campbell crashed over, with fly half Henry Lamb converting, then a chargedown allowed Murton to cross for his second try.

Witney sealed the spoils with a stoppage-time try from replacement Carl Strutt.
