TRAGEDY struck Aherlow Shaw, who Richard Yeates guided to this year’s Pall Mall final in June, after he broke a a hock during an open race at Hove and had to be put down.
The June 2009 black dog won his semi-final in the Pall Mall, before finishing fifth in the final won by You Mind Me.
He won 16 of his 63 starts. Yeates, meanwhile, is still brooding over what he calls the ‘best pups ever’ from his Oaks winner Freedom Emma.
The black bitch is due to be covered again in December by Irish Derby winner Kinloch Brae.
Yeates also has high hopes for newcomer Daddys Round, who looks worth following after a debut 15.17secs spin.
