BOWLS: Headington title push hit by Shiplake

Headington A missed out on the chance to secure the Division 1 title with a shock 5-1 defeat at Shiplake in the Oxford & District Bowls League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries.

Craig Nicoll was the only Headington skip to win as Barrie Evans, Barry Lambourne and Jim Bland led their side to a 92-66 victory in their bid to avoid relegation.

Kidlington were relegated from the top flight following a 6-0 whitewash at Banbury Central A.

Captain Ian Whelpton with George Schwab, Andy Wilkin and Mick Goddard led the way with a 39-14 win as his side also racked up the night’s highest team score in a 108-58 victory.

West Witney secured promotion from Division 2 with a 5-1 home win against Watlington.

Kevin Alder stormed to the night’s biggest rink win with a 35-6 beating of Gordon Hooker.
