It was a great climax to Oxford's biggest night of the year, but a shame that so few punters witnessed Frank Taylor's You Mind Me land the spoils in the prestigious Ladbrokes Pall Mall final on Tuesday.

The connections of the big-race winner You Mind Me were delighted.

But the evening paled into comparison with England’s televised Euro 2012 clash against Ukraine in the popularity stakes.

The attendance of less than 500 was half of what would be have nornally been expected on a big-race night.

It was probably the lowest turn-out for a Pall Mall finals night.

That apart, it didn’t take away the excitement for the honours in the Group 1 event.

In the most open final for years, there was no holding You Mind Me, not known for his trapping ability. Bbut here the the black and white September ‘09 whelp was a clear seven spots ahead of the rest at the sectional as he powered ahead to win almost as he pleased to remain unbeaten.

In a relatively clear-run race, there were no hard-luck stories and thewinner now goes for the William Hill Classic at Sunderland.

However, it was not all doom and gloom with 180 in the restaurant. Sponsors Ladbrokes were delighted with the evening, givingtop marks for the free buffet. The bookmakers were praised by Sky’s ring reporters for betting to unusually low margins. The lowest 100 per cent and highest 113, the best I can remember.
