Oxford's attempts to bring in a new trainer have stalled over the uncertain future of the track.

The two applications received were both verbal, but both trainers asked for more information on what the future may hold for Oxford.

This came following last month’s news that Risk Capital Partners purchased the Greyhound Racing Association for £52.4m, in partnership with Gilliard Homes, with a view to building on all the GRA tracks when the property market was buoyant.

Both trainers were informed that there was no further information on the situation, resulting in them deciding to stay put.

Racing manager Gary Baiden said: “We are attempting to bring in a trainer without success at present.

“The racing strength held up despite the departure of Michael Peterson, but Nick Colton has now vastly reduced his strength in preparation for his move to Ireland.

“This is a concern because the pool of greyhounds available is around 300 and we need 360 to be able to grade the meetings as required.”

THE Great British Greyhound Walk will take place at Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Park, Harbord Road, Oxford on Sunday, June 24 (10am).

It’s part of a nationwide walk to show great pets retired hounds make.

The Oxford organiser is Jane Applegarth, who can be contacted on 07769 506244 for further details or see oxford- retiredgreyhounds.co.uk.
