BOWLS: Hawes and Galletly get England calls

Oxfordshire's Katherine Hawes and Carole Galletly are celebrating call-ups to the Bowls England women’s senior international team.

Hawes (Oxford City & County) and Galletly (Banbury Central) will be representing their country in the British Isles International Series in Bangor, Northern Ireland, from June 19-21.

They earned their selection after impressing in trials at Norgren BC, Shipston-on-Stour.

Oxford City & County’s Donna Knight missed out as did Headington’s Nathan Lewis in the men’s trial.

OXFORDSHIRE Ladies beat Sussex 47-41 in the Walker Cup first round at Egham BC.

Gail Gilkes’s side of Carole Galletly, Jeanette Berry and Katherine Hawes posted a 27-17 win over skip Ami Truran to secure victory.

Caroline Campion, Donna Knight, Carol Gaskins and Sue Mayo were defeated 24-20 by Lorraine Kuhler, but it wasn’t enough to stop Oxon booking a home clash with Berkshire on Sunday, June 24.
