TERRY Bishop (pictured), a well-known character in Oxford sporting circles, died in the Abingdon Community Hospital on Sunday, aged 69, after a short illness.
Mr Bishop, of Shorte Close, Headington, was heavily involved in cricket and football for much of his life.
Brought up in Risinghurst, he played cricket for Risinghurst CC before going on to represent Headington CC, where he opened the bowling.
He then played for Horspath, where he was still a member and vice-president, and also at Forest Hill on Sundays, before taking up umpiring.
In football, he was best known for his time in management and coaching, enjoying successful spells with Thame United, Abingdon Town, Pressed Steel and Horspath.
He captured the Oxfordshire FA Sam Waters Sunday Cup with Headington United Cricket Club and Oxford Nondescripts.
He was also a big fan of Wycombe Wanderers, where he was involved in youth coaching.
He leaves two sons, Stuart and Adrian, and four grandchildren, Holly, Jessica, Harvey and Ruby.
A funeral service is to be held at Oxford Crematorium on Friday, May 25 (2.15pm).
