Banbury pulled off a major upset by dumping Leicestershire’s Kibworth out of the Kingfisher Cup at the second round stage.
Despite missing six first-team players on Oxfordshire duty, Banbury beat the former winners and three-time finalists in the last decade by 114 runs.
A fine all-round display from Ollie Wright and a devastating spell of quick bowling from Josh Megson were the keys to an improbable away victory in the national knock-out competition.
Wright (40), second team skipper Steve Beck (36) and tail-ender Jimmy Phillips (23) helped Banbury to 158 all out, Amir Mahmood taking 5-26.
Banbury soon took charge of Kibworth’s reply, restricting them 16-3, 30-6 and 44 all out.
Wright showed superb accuracy in his 3-11 from nine overs, featuring four maidens, while Megson took 3-20.
Ollie Murrey (2-3) and Phillips (2-6) completed the job.
Banbury will host the winner of High Wycome and Oxford in round three on Sunday, May 27.
Oxford defeated Beaconsfield by two wickets to one in a bowl out after the ground was unfit for play in their first round clash on Sunday.
Joe Porter and John Allcock hit the stumps for Oxford, while their former captain Jason Harrison was successful for Beaconsfield.
