Abingdon School pupil Matthew Carter said his ambition was to win the junior world championships after starring in the national junior indoor rowing championships held in North London.

Carter won the year 12 boys race, covering 2000m in only 6 mins 14.1 secs secs on the Concept2 rowing machines.

Furthermore, the Abingdon School won the male category 6,780 metres relay race – the distance of today’s University Boat Race – in 18.10.6 As a result of their achievements, the school were awarded a prize for ten rowers and their coach to attend and follow the Boat Race Carter says: “I have been rowing for four years. I mainly row on the water, but we use the machines in school for training purposes and to keep fit.

“My aim is to win the junior world Championships this summer.”
